About the new transliteration script

I dont know Tibetan script. Pལེཨས However, as this script is very similar to devnagari, I am trying to develop an inkey for it. Please help me correct and modify the script. The current inkeys are:

  • Lead consonnants (some of them composed using Latin digrams):
  • Independant semivowels:
    "y":"ཡ" ; "w":"ཝ" ; "r":"ར" ; "l":"ལ" ; "A":"འ"
  • Independant vowels:
    "I":"ཨི" ; "U":"ཨུ" ; "E":"ཨེ" ; "O":"ཨོ" ; "a":"ཨ"
  • Dependant vowels:
    "i":"ི" ; "u":"ུ" ; "e":"ེ" ; "o":"ོ"
  • Decimal digits:
    "0":"༠" ; "1":"༡" ; "2":"༢" ; "3":"༣" ; "4":"༤" ; "5":"༥" ; "6":"༦" ; "7":"༧" ; "8":"༨" ; "9":"༩"

What about the ts’ég signs (occuring between syllables or at end of words), and all the missing subjoined consonnants ? And the punctuation signs ?

Comment on the transliteration script

Hi Eukesh

Dzongkha words often contain vertically stacked ligatures. In Unicode text these are formed by using a set of explicitly combining consonants (U+0F90 - U+0FB8) attached to the base consonants (U+0F40- U+0FB8). The encoding model used in Unicode for the script used to write Dzongkha and Tibetan is therefore quite different than that used for other Indic scripts such as Devanagari.

To be useful, and get correct output, an Input method need to use a romanization which preserves the Dzongkha spelling such as Wylie Transliteration or EWTS. Please study these if you are trying to make an Input method for Dzongkha. As you have currently implemented the inkey it is useless for forming conjuncts and it does not insert the character which occurs between every word in Dzongkha.

There is a Javascript Wylie input method at http://www.colourcountry.net/tibetan/ ~ perhaps this could be adapted for Dzongkha (and Tibetan) input on Wikimedia projects?

Eukesh

Once more may I ask you to kindly please remove your Tranlit script from Dzongkha Wikipedia. It interferes with the standard Dzongkha keyboard, makes editing Dzongkha articles very difficult and so discourages participation on Dzongkha Wikipedia. In other words it is harmful to Dzongkha Wikipedia. This may be one of the reasons why no one is participating here.

I know your intention was to be helpful - but in this particular case it isn't. As I think I informed you some time ago, Dzongkha transliteration is *very* different than that used for Indic languages. For instance following normal translitteration (not transcription) the word Dzongkha (རྫོང་ཁ) is translitterated as rdzong kha but, when we type this, your translit script produces "རཛོངཁཨ" instead of "རྫོང་ཁ་". Dzongkha has many unpronounced prefixes and suffixes and requires a tshek character (U+0F0B) between each syllable things which your system doesn't handle. I know your Tranlit script has a check box to turn it off ~ but it is very frustrating to have to do this with each and every edit. Please remove this script ASAP because as far as Dzongkha is concerned it is entirely useless.

(UTC)Reply

I fully agree. And this bad translietaration script also affects the Newari wikipedia, which is also unusable. In addition Eukesh pretends performing administration of these wikis, runnng bots sending "welcome" messages to any one just visiting the site once in read-only mode (for exampel just to check the existence of an interwiki link from other Wikipedias or from Commons, or even now from Wikidata). His bots is sending messages to user pages, even if theses users have NEVER performed any edit on that wiki and NEVER configured their local user account to disable emails, and to create a minimal user page to indicate that they may be contacted only on other wikipedias using another language they can read.
Now because of his damaging bot, many people are receiving unsollicitated emails massively sent from Wikipedia because of his bots, and because these messages contain texts that are written in a script or language they cannot even decipher, these users are reporting Wikipedia as a source of mail spam. Note that by default, all messages posted to a user page are forwarded by email to the user's email address (this has been used by true spammers that are attempting to post their spew to ALL new users of rarely visited wikipedias.
EukeshBot (the bot that Eukesh is running) should be stopped. He is the real spammer. But what is more damaging is that any one trying to complain to the poster of these unsollicited "welcome" messages are being replied by these users the best they can, but Eukesh does not like the reply and refuses to see that all his works on Tibetan-script wikipedias is completely useless, and in fact damaging. He also reverts our own replies to our own user pages, threatening us that we are spammers ! But the truth is that Eukesh IS the spammer (with its bot), and now your comment, CFynn, confirms that hs work has been damaging to several wikipedias (Tibetan, Newari, Dzonkha) whre he installed those bad scripts.
Please ask other admins to drop all admin privileges from Eukesh (and block also his secondary EukeshBot account). He does not know what he does and he is dangerous for the whole Wikimedian community.
Eukesh won the battle with his bot to fight against all new ones that would try to do something on this site, but he also made the site unreadable, and unusable for any contribution (don't be surprized now that these sites are so rarely used: Eukesh opened on fact the door to let only spammers enter here, and not regular users).
Remove all works performed on this Dzongkha site (notably in stylesheets, and templates that he has blocked from all edits, even if they are completely wrong !), as well as on the Tibetan and Newari sites. Eukesh does not even know the script (look above) so he cannot be useful here as an admin (he should just be just a modest contributor, but his work should be still confirmed by other users knowing the relevant languages). Tibetan script

Hi, what is śivo rakṣatu gīrvāṇabhāṣārasāsvādatatparān in the Tibetan/Dzongha script? The transliteration program comes up with Is this true? Thanks.

No this is incorrect - Dzongkha & Tibetan transliteration in roman script works completely differently to transliteration for Indic languages - so the program will not work for converting Sanskrit transliteration to Tibetan script. The transliteration of śivo rakṣatu gīrvāṇabhāṣārasāsvādatatparān in Tibetan script would be something like: ཤི་ཝོ་ རཀྵ་ཏུ་ གཱིརྭཎཱ་བྷཱཥཱ་རསཱ་སྭཱ་ད་ཏ་པ་རཱན ~ (Though that is only an approximation). Small request

Hello! I am a Polish wikipedian and I would like to ask you for your help - writing a new article about former Polish President who won the Nobel Peace Prize in 1983 – Lech Wałęsa. I have looked for his biography in your Wikipedia but without success. Polish Wikipedians will be grateful for your help. Thank you so much in advance! PS you can find the English version of the article here. Best wishes from Poland, Patrol110 ༡༦:༣༥, ༢༦ སྤྱི་ཟླ་བཅུ་གཉིས་པ། ༢༠༠༩ (UTC)Reply

connectivity project

Hallo, my name is Anastasiya Lvova, I'm "duty" in Connectivity project. The essence of the "Connectivity" project is to study and enhance the coherence of Wikipedia, or, in other words, to improve hypertext navigation between articles. The project deals with deadends, isolated articles, non-categorized articles, transitivity of the category tree, etc.

We want to work with your language version, but we need configured MediaWiki:Disambiguationspage for it (with direct links to template namespace pages, for example, ru:MediaWiki:Disambiguationspage/de:MediaWiki:Disambiguationspage/fr:MediaWiki:Disambiguationspage). Is it possible to set it up for our usage?

thanks in advance, Lvova (UTC)Reply

Front Page

I think we should fix the front page to look like what other wikipedias look like with the featured articles, pictures and DYKs. Also someone should tell Google to add Dzongkha to google translate. It would make it easier then downloading stuff.

Sadly there are no active users who understand Dzongkha here now and no native speakers at all, so I don't think that changing the front page would be of any use. Furthermore, I am strongly againts the usage of google translator here. It would make some enthusiasts create articles with literal translations.
I think if we add atleast featured picture to at least have an good apperence. We can feature pictures from Bhutan. Theres alot of good images from Bhutan.

I'd like the confirmation that the website logo (top-left corner, but also shown below on the right at its nominal resolution) reads as follows :

ཝི༌ཀི༌ལྤི༌དི༌འཨ་
wi*ki*lpi*di*’a
(wa+i, nb.ts’ég, ka+i, nb.ts’ég, la+sub.pa+i, nb.ts’ég, da+i, nb.ts’ég, ’a+a, ts’ég)
’aga déba ’adê khyoda ’a-sa
(’a, ga, ts’ég, da+é, ba, ts’ég, ’a, da+ê, ts’ég, kha+sub.ya+o, da, ts’ég, ’a, sa, ts’ég)

Thanks if you can correct the orthography, if my guess was wrong (notably the ts’ég, or non-breaking ts’ég, or ts’égché signs, and the questionable letter "la" in the first line translitterating/adapting the term Wikipedia).
Really this logo needs a much better rendering (consider rendering it with the excellent "Microsoft Himalaya" font, shipped in Windows 7, or some other OpenType font with good hinting and rendered with antialiasing enabled).

Why the text so large? (UTC)Reply

----
The site's stylesheet performs several CSS adjustment that cumulate each other (font:size:127%; font-size:130%; ...) because they apply to successively nested elements. This should never be done, and notably NEVER on global elements.
The Monobook stylesheet is now completely broken by these unjustified font-size adjustments (performed on the wrong elements: body, .globalWrapper, etc..., without even knowing what they will contain). But the new Vector style is starting now to be affected by incorrect CSS trials.
Most probably Eukesh has done this, but visibly not only he does not know the Tibetan script and its associated languages, but he is also not trained to edit CSS stylesheet globally without measuing their effects. Please stop Eukesh from damaging these sites more.
All font size adjustments (at the site level, not those made locally within pages) should be reverted. It's not the proper way to do that (even if people currently have fonts that will render tibetan at small sizes, they still need to be able to contibute non-Tibetan texts. It will always be possible for users to use better fonts in their browsers, and not the fonts indicated by the stylesheet, and before that, to zoom in (with CTRL + Numpad+) to read Tibetan-scripts more easily.
Accessibility of this site remains an issue and it should be taken more seriously than with just the unilateral changes decided by a single user damaging the whole site and make the site even LESS accessible than before these tweaks.

Hello, I am new to this page. I came across this page and noticed that a proper font is not set for displaying Dzongkha texts. Can you or any admin set the default font to either "DDC Uchen" or "DDC Joyig" ? Then setting font size should work fine.
